`When I Saw You’ (2012) is the second film by Jordan-based Palestinian film-maker Annemarie Jacir. It has won numerous festival prizes all over the world.

The film is set in 1967, when thousands of Palestinian refugees fled to camps in Jordan. It tells the story of 11-year-old Tarek who, along with his mother, has been separated from his father in the general chaos. Tarek goes in search of his father and ends up joining a group of Arab guerrillas. His mother follows, and they eventually try to make their way home with a new-found sense of hope and freedom.

‘Warm, supple and heart-felt’ – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
